so it would seem..

...that i logged 35 hours almost to the minute, before tonight. 3.5/day average, like i thought. i spent just over 24 hours on the one character. that was a little disturbing to see. 1/10 of my time over the last 10 days was spent with that one toon. also in answer to the "do they kick you out or wait for you to log out" question, the answer is yes....not what i expected either. i got some lovely little status and countdown messages, and then when the time came...nothing happened. i just kept playing and playing and playing. it's like that episode of friends where they got free porn and were afraid to change the channel or turn it off cuz it might go away. i built a little cow character (called mukka ;) with about 10 minutes to go just for kicks and i went for an extra 35 or so minutes before i just stopped. when i tried to log back in, i couldn't. so there you go.

You make me want to try your crack. Just once, mind you.

10 day trial only costs you the space on your hard drive :)

i think someone who is more familiar with the RTS it's based off of would be even more entertained by it. there's (obviously) lots of little shout-outs to the game.

one thing that i was really impressed with is that the first time you create a character, a narrator comes on to introduce the race and there's this sweeping shot that starts in the wilderness, flys above/around your race's main city and then to a smaller village. about 1/2 of the way through, once you get close enough to the ground to see the animals/people you realize that it's not a cut scene, it's a live shot of what's happening in game. it comes to rest right over your shoulder and the game begins.

it's a pretty slick way to introduce you to the game, and give you a basic idea of the scope. there's also a bit of cinematics when the game lauches the first time that is just so ...blizzard... that it made me smile.

not that any of this is an incentive to play, i don't think. :)

so i have interesting news on this subject.

while watching a preview for Narnia last night (one of gina's favorite childhood books), i asked her if she'd ever be interested in playing a game set in that type of world. i explained WoW and how there was a free trial period to see if she liked it. i also may have mentioned that certain StL-based friends are/would consider playing the trial/real game. would be a fun way to keep in touch and have fun, i would think, and that would truly be the draw for her.

we hope to do the free trial in mid january when we return from vacation. anybody care to join us then?
